About P.M.Chin

A few years back for reasons that are nolonger entirely clear, my bestfriend and I came up with a couple of odd nicknames for each other. She became the Wombat and I became the Chinchilla. Chin for short. And maybe it is a testament to my odd way of looking at the world that I decided to use Chin for my penname. But that is kind of the signature with my writing, I have a slightly odd way of looking at the world and trying to laugh at it.

I think I’m in Love. A hardcore Purple Goddess Viking fan. If the Vikes are still in playoff contention come Dec. 20, then I will get a couple tickets for the Monday night game against the Bears. I wish they would let Favre go, give Tavaris a chance, and elevate Frazier to Head Coach. May a miracle occur in Foxboro come Sunday!

Hey Tom, thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you do get your tickets for the December 20 game against the Bears, it should be a good game–divisional games always up the ante.

Never dreamed I would be echoing your sentiments, but I think you’re right and Favre needs to sit it out this week and let Tavaris Jackson start. How he can plant that left foot and throw with two fractures is anyone’s guess, but Favre despite all logic Favre is angling to start. He hasn’t even practiced so far this week. It just seems to make more sense to let Jackson start and have Favre heal up so they have him later in the season.

As for benching Childress and elevating Frazier to head coach…that’s a tougher one for me. If Childress gets all the credit for things that go wrong with the team, why doesn’t he get credit for the things that go right? The Vikings have improved each year under his leadership. He doesn’t strain himself to be likable, so he doesn’t win a lot of fans and the alleged friction between him and Favre doesn’t help. Much as I love Frazier (and I really do), it bears noting that his defense hasn’t been able to get to opposing quarterbacks this season the way they have in the past couple seasons. And, there have been times when it hasn’t looked like the defense has been able to adjust during the course of games to what opposing offenses are showing.

But, whatever might be going on with the team, these are guys who think they have what it takes to be champions. Pairing that mindset with their vast talent, you just have to believe that, one of these days, they will find a can of whoop ass to open and silence the doubters. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that happens this Sunday against the Patriots.

    d) since you have associated that rather nice icon pic of you w/ the website, it is also on my work browser links toolbar
    e) work people now come by and see a cute girl headshot icon on my pc and suspect something rather seedy!!
    f) i need to explain myself

conclusion, either i need to remove your bookmark , or you need to post a less-alluring pic of you!

No, I don’t moonlight in Queens selling PCs. Man, that would seriously suck if things did descend into some messy legal battle. I guess it is fortunate that I’m obscure ๐Ÿ˜‰

Believe me, I have every intention of writing something that has little to nothing to do with football in the near future. However, I have to write something for the Daily Norseman first. Be patient, I promise I’m working on it ๐Ÿ™‚

So in the Norseman you mentioned you stayed at home for the draft, yet got dressed up for it. Were you able to watch it with other Viking fans at home, or just with fans online. Social Networking is a great way to reach out to fans from everywhere and not just same people each year. I think this may have contributed to me not hosting a draft party for the first time since 97′. Although I told my friends it was because the lockout and I was protesting, I had just as much fun as usual. I still conferenced with my brother, father, and my old friends that live in other parts of the country and are never able to make my draft party anyway. I REALLY HATE that the last 2 years, Day 1 is only the first round, and on a thursday. Draft parties are supposed to be all day affairs of drinking on a SATURDAY. This Thursday BS has probably resulted in the end to my draft parties. It used to be Draft party allday Saturday Madden Tournament on Sunday, while we argue about values for newly created players darfted on Day 1. Yet still have the draft on muted in background for all too see and criticize/praise. OMG I have been listening to this Draft BS all night, the media needs a story…so all day its Vikings Reach on Ponder what a mistake the Vikings made….Skip Bayless is pissing me off today. And NO I still havent slept yet. Come on I can always sleep on Monday. And thats another thing I used to only have to stay up 2 days straight, now 3 1/2 to 4 days. I mean at 34 I can still do this but I see problems once I reach Farve/Age. OKAY…..SORRY….I am done ranting now…..All in all I still had a great Day 1. And Madden Tournament is still scheduled for Sunday. So I am actually happy, all things considered….

Well, I wish I could say that I was as social as you were during the draft, but it’s kind of work for me so I try to focus and that wouldn’t make me much fun to be with. However, I did follow and comment on the Daily Norseman thread a little. Does that count as being social? No? I’m sure you had a much more swingin’ time.

I think you’re right, dragging the draft out for 3-4 days is kind of ridiculous. The NFL wants a big spectacle, okay. But don’t drag it out so much that the audience you’re trying to attract gets bored and loses interest. Lately, it seems as if there is a different spin on the draft proceedings every year, so I wouldn’t get too worked up about it because it may be completely different by next year.

But, most importantly, how did you do in the Madden Tournament?

I like your post on the decade later/justice as well as all of your Viking blogs. It’s good to talk about important non-football stuff like this – especially when it is this big. We need to think about the overall impact on our lives and the fact that we finally got the bastard who turned things upside down for us on 9-11. Nice job putting that together. That was a long time coming for some justice.

As for the Vikes this year, I have to admit that I was pretty PO-ed when we drafted Ponder. I was thinking to trade up for Gabbert or take the best defensive player and then go for Kaepernick in the 2nd. Living in Reno, I was impressed with his passing/running skills and the way he led the UNR team to a great come-back victory over Boise State. I’m not sure he would have been a perfect fit for the Vikes, but I had to go with what I knew at the time. Now, I’m thinking that just maybe Ponder is a good pick after all. He looks pretty solid in the highlight clips I’ve seen so I guess I’m back with some “purple optimism” again. Hey, we still have AP, Percy, and a whole bunch of pro-bowlers going for us. Maybe this is our year to fly under the radar?

Thanks for giving me some interesting stuff to read about my team – especially during the dead part of the season. I’m not just a real Viking fan, but my grandparents are all Norskies so I am technically 100% real Viking. One of my cousins in Norway claims we may be related back to Erik the Red (but hard to prove). My dad grew up in Minneapolis and moved to CA where I grew up. Luckily, I was always able to carry the Viking torch among all of the 9er fans since my dad brought his kids up right!

Keep up the good work chinspeaks!

Hi Dave, good to meet you and thanks for reading. Glad to hear that even far away from Minnesota in California you’re still proudly showing your horns. Normally, it isn’t easy to find much to talk about during the off season, with the lockout in place it is more difficult than usual–thank goodness for the Vikings and their near-constant drama.

As for the draft, because I don’t pay much attention to college football, I’m kind of out of my depth when it comes to deciding who the Vikings should draft. I was surprised by the Vikings choosing Christian Ponder, but, given my neglect of college football, I was going to be surprised by any pick. I’m a little concerned in the Vikings drafting a quarterback in the first round when they sought to bolster the offensive line with later round picks. That makes me afraid that Vikings fans will see as little of Christian Ponder as Lions fans have seen Matthew Stafford–I wince at the idea of getting a quarterback before you get protection for him, but that is just me.

I’m glad I could entertain you with some non-football stuff too. I like to think variety is good for our souls ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow! I really like your style of writing and you are a godess!!!!! I’m a die-hard vikes fan and if I were to get cut I would bleed purple, I swear!!!!!
Can’t wait for season to start, I’m really glad Tarvis Jackson is gone. Hopefully we can pick up somebody but I’m pretty happy with Joe Webb. We will see in a few weeks…. Keep up the good work girl I enjoy your stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, thanks Mark, glad you like my writing. Last week with the lockout being lifted things got crazy, only really getting a chance to catch my breath now. I really have to finish the book review I was going to post right before football lurched back to life.

Is it me, or are the Seahawks getting to be MN west? They have Tavaris Jackson (if anybody needed a place to make a fresh start it’s Jackson), Darrell Bevell, and Sidney Rice. Rice leaving MN stings a bit.

As for the Vikings, I think Joe Webb is getting ignored a bit in all the excitement about Christian Ponder and Donovan McNabb, but I wouldn’t write Webb off and I would love to see him be a great success as a quarterback because I think the NFL draft is kind of fickle and bogus in the way it values talent. Rumor has it that Brett Favre said Webb was so athletic and talented that the Vikings coaching staff should figure out how to get Webb on the field more. Don’t know if that is true, but Favre, who had famously said it wasn’t his job to train young quarterbacks, had Webb working out with him for awhile in Mississippi during the lockout. Seems like a vote of confidence to me.

      Thanks again for reading ๐Ÿ™‚
